Bohemian Hourglass

This is pretty much how I am feeling these days.
Like a chick growing out of an hourglass.

Time...
Its imposed importance
has infiltrated our souls
and skewed our values
as human beings.

We have become more concerned about
being on time
than spending time
mending the wounded knees
and hearts of our children...
than taking care of our friends...
than tending to our mental health...

It is no wonder that I feel like a bohemian in an hourglass.

What should REALLY matter?
The mixed messages given to us by our leaders
are confusing and inauthentic.

If you really believe that my family is first,
won't you understand when I need to hug my daughter for an extra ten minutes in the morning
thus causing me to be late?

If you really believe that it is important to take care of each other,
won't you understand when I need to meet my friend for breakfast so she can use my shoulder as a Kleenex
thus causing me to be late?

If you really believe that I need to take care of myself,
won't you understand when I need to spend fifteen minutes meditating to reduce my stress
thus causing me to be late?

Of course I don't mean that I would
shirk my responsibilities as an employee
or dental patient
or haircut victim.

I believe that it is possible to both honor the bohemian
AND
the hourglass.

Life does not have to be EITHER/OR.
It can be AND.

Unfortunately, we have been so conditioned to believe that
punctuality = respect.
It is time to change the paradigm.
It is TIME.
