Tonight, I was talking through a situation with my kids that occurred as we were playing kickball in the front yard with the neighborhood kids.
I was trying to get my kids to determine what is more important in life- winning or taking care of another person's heart. (Of course, I was shooting for the heart thing...)
I was on my game.
The words were flowing as if I had written them down.
The vocabulary was appropriate for my audience.
Even my "pauses for effect" were especially dramatic.
It was my "I have a dream" speech for kids.
It was that good...
Of course,
the simple dream I was trying to communicate to my kids consisted of important life lessons
such as...
sportsmanship
kindness
respect
teamwork.
Did I for one minute expect they would act as sponges,
absorbing every ounce of wisdom
able to wring out the correct behaviors
when necessary?
Heck no...
Until, at the end of a particularly impassioned part of my speech,
Julia looked at me
Gave me two thumbs up
And said,
Wow, Mom. You are really talking good tonight.
I'm not exactly sure what my kids learned tonight.
Except that I am not particularly good at holding in my laughter....
I sure hope they at least learned a little bit about life's important lessons.
